Dear Sangha Friends,As you are no doubt aware, this issue of Bodhi has
arrived late. There are several reasons for this delay. First, the editorial staff was engaged in preparing materials for the Nalandabodhi Sangha Retreat, which took place May 27 - June 3. Second, yet another move consumed the immediate post-retreat period. Please note the new address for Bodhi listed in the "Publication Information" section. Finally, the implementation of our new subscription based distribution caused further delay. Thank you for your patience and your support of
this format for the dissemination of the wisdom of our most compassionate and skillful teachers, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche and The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. With this issue, we are implementing further changes in design and distribution. Bodhi, now graced with a cover, will be available for sale at selected locations. The Naropa Bookstore at Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado, and Banyon Books, Vancouver, BC, will carry the current issue. You may order current or back issues of
Bodhi through the new Nalandabodhi Store, Bodhi dharma-goods. The teachings presented in Bodhi IV by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche and The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche are each part of a longer series, to be published in several segments, in future issues of Bodhi. Khenpo Rinpoche's Song and his Commentary on the root verses, In Praise of the Dharmadhatu, from
Nagarjuna's Collection of Praises, offer us a pithy explanation of the Buddha's intention in the Third Turning of the Wheel of Dharma. Ponlop Rinpoche's teaching, The Life and Teaching of Guru Padmasambhava, provides us with a detailed examination of the Vajrayana path.
In this issue, Lynne Conrad Marvet reports on the first Nalandabodhi Sangha Retreat, a memorable seven days with The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. Ryszard Frackiewicz took many photographs of this event, and
we are delighted to share some of them in these pages. Also included in this issue are sangha reports from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Austria and Germany. We look forward to hearing more from the international sangha in future issues of Bodhi. Bodhi is rapidly growing and changing. What began four issues ago as a newsletter to the Nalandabodhi sangha has become a vehicle for presenting the precious teachings of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche
and The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche to an expanding and more diverse readership. We are interested in your response to this change. As the direction of this publication continues to unfold, we welcome submissions of articles, poetry and artwork for inclusion in Bodhi, as well as your comments and suggestions for future issues. Yours in the Bodhi-dharma, The Editors, Cindy Shelton, Seattle; Carole Fleming, Boulder; Amita Gupta, Vancouver Corrections: We apologize for errors in the last issue, including the omission of Ari Goldfield as the skillful and generous translator of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche's commentary on What it Means to be Lucky: The Excellent Path Laid with Precious Gems. The photograph, "Singing at Moraine Lake in the Canadian Rockies," (p.16) was
incorrectly credited to Ryszard Frackiewicz. It was taken by Stella Young. The photograph, "Lama Tenam with Gerry Wiener's Daughter," (p. 52) was taken by Lynne Conrad Marvet, not Marion Power, as reported. |
